Obituary for Joseph Litwin

Dateline: Burnt Hills, NY
Joseph Litwin, 92, of Council Lane, died on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenenctady, NY. He was born on September 29, 1921 in Trafford, PA and was the son of the late John and Kathryn (Korbiak) Litwin. He served with the US Army Air Corps from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945 as Corporal. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star and 1 silver star, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Litwin lived in Burnt Hills since 2001 and was formerly of Fort Myers, FL and East McKeesport, PA. He worked for Westinghouse Air Brake Co. in Wilmerding, PA for over 40 years until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed cooking and eating desserts. Joe was a hard core Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan who loved his family beyond words. Just to be among their activities and all together was his ultimate joy. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Orange) Litwin who died in 2001; loving father of Larry (Margaret) Litwin of Glenville, NY, Gary (Linda) Litwin of Ballston Lake, NY, and Terri Anne (Roy) Ference of Fairport, NY; caring grandfather of Ryan (Alyssa) Litwin of College Station, TX, Megan (William) McDonald of Westboro, MA, Ian Ference of Fairport, NY, Amanda (Eddy) Litwin-Rohrmeier of Burnt Hills, NY, Alyssa Ference and Lee Lemon of Charlotte, NC, Eric (Kristen) Litwin of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Emily Litwin of Crested Butte, CO; adoring great- grandfather of Connor and Brendan McDonald and Sophia and Cooper Lemon; brother of Irene Markovic of Trafford, PA and the late Nick Litwin, Walter Litwin, Tillie Nigrini and Helen McCarthy. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Funeral will begin on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 9:15 AM in the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY and then process to Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road in Ballston Lake for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Jerry Gingras at 10:00 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
