Obituary for Donald Allen Bolon PhD

Donald Allen Bolon passed away on Thursday, December 3 2015. He was born September 7th, 1934 in Cleveland, OH to Robert Allen and Kathleen Bruce Bolon

Don received his BS from Allegheny College and a Masters Degree and PhD from the University of Minnesota in with degrees in organic chemistry. This was followed by post-graduate studies at Harvard prior to joining the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Laboratory in Schenectady, NY. He later retired to Charlton, NY following his long and distinguished career in research.

Don was an active out-doorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, decoy carving and collecting antiques, coins and stamps. As an active member of the Glenville Fish and Game Club, Ducks Unlimited Club and The New York State Conservation Council, he was a role model for his family’s involvement in the protection of the environment. Don enjoyed history, particularly American History and the history of his surrounding area of NY where he worked with the Historical Society of Charlton. In recent years he put his research capabilities to extensively studying and mapping his genealogy. Don has been an important member of the Print Club of Albany for the past 25 years serving several terms as president and treasurer. He was part of the team who brought the club to profitability and subsequently were able to purchase a building in Schenectady as the first official Albany Print Club Museum. The membership in this club tied together his love of art and history.

He was the beloved father of Kristen Clickner, Claire E. Bolon and her husband, Douglas Speck, Diane Bolon- Koffman and Michelle Bolon-Daubon and her husband, Druso Daubon, III; loving grandfather of Kyle and Alexandra Clickner, Megan, Emily and Abigail Speck, Laura, Christopher and Stephen Koffman and Druso Daubon, IV. and Monica Daubon; caring brother of Roger Bolon and Carla Dinkle and her husband, Ray Dinkle. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of His Life will be scheduled at a later date.
