Obituary for Maurice "Mickey" Shipway

Maurice ‘Mickey’ Shipway, 71, of Burnt Hills passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was born on January 5, 1946 in Cooperstown, New York and was the son of the late Joseph and Gladys (Hammond) Shipway.
Mickey graduated from Cherry Valley Central School and continued his education attending Oneonta State, Union College and The College of St. Rose completing his Master’s Degree in Education. He spent his entire career in the Burnt Hills School District first teaching mathematics for many years and then becoming Assistant Principal from which he retired in 2001. He had a love and appreciation for education and was adored by students, parents, and fellow faculty alike.
Mickey and his devoted wife Barbara settled in Burnt Hills in 1968 quickly becoming part of the community where they raised their dear daughter Sarah.
Mickey was known for his amiable nature, genuine kindness, and innate generosity. He was known as a man who would do anything for anyone; he was loved by all who had the good fortune to cross his path.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife Barbara; devoted daughter Sarah (Steven Keena) Shipway; loving grandson Harrison Shipway Keena and caring brothers William (Elaine) Shipway and David (Kathy) Shipway.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 4:00 pm – 7:00pm at Townley and Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
