Obituary for Michael James Sundberg

Dateline: Scotia, NY
Michael James Sundberg of Scotia, NY, age 32, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 3, 2017. He was predeceased by his grandparents Joseph and Therese Safran and his birth mother/aunt Lisa (Safran) Ardine. Son of Morgan and Kathy Smith of Knoxville, TN (formerly of Charlton, NY), Michael was the beloved brother of Jennifer Smith Mathews (Stan), Lauren Noel (Earle), Morgan J. Smith, Ashley Spencer, Shane Spencer (Abby), Kimi Smith, and Artem Smith. He was also the ridiculously fun uncle of Carson and Sawyer James, and Nicky and Elise. A 2002 graduate of Yough High School in Herminie, PA, Michael attended Westmoreland County Community College and Schenectady County Community College, where he studied Computer Science. Michael’s greatest accomplishment was being a wonderful friend to many, always available with a patient ear, thoughtful advice, and a never ceasing, contagious laugh. Regardless of what one said to him, he always managed to see the good in the individual and the situation. Avid video gamer and lover of all things weird, Michael had an eclectic set of interests and was an ardent reader, making him an interesting and engaging conversationalist. Just a few weeks ago Michael told loved ones that the most important thing in his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ, so we are comforted knowing he is spending eternity with his Savior. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Townley and Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bald Eagle Boys Camp at 1077 Wilderness Trail, Mill Hall, PA 17751.
