Obituary for Dorothy C. "Dot" Morley

Dateline: Burnt Hills, NY

Dorothy C. Morley, age 88, died April 4, 2017.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John A. Morley. They were married for 63 years and together raised 8 children. She was predeceased by her husband John, eldest son David, and her brother Robert Conaway. She is survived by her children Peter, Barbara (John Chamberlain), Paul, Sarah (Theo Macris), Lisa (Chris) Madden, Laura (Tal) Hardman, Heather (Darius) Ismail and by her sister, Helen Louise Gibson. She has ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was born in 1928 in Delevan, New York, the daughter of the late Augusta and Raymond Conaway. She was a graduate of Castile High School in Wyoming County, NY and earned her Bachelor’s degree at New York State College for Teachers in Albany, where she met her husband, John.

Dorothy was a long-time Burnt Hills resident, and a 55-year communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and she and John supported organizations that cared for the welfare of others. Dorothy was an avid back-yard birder, gardener, bicyclist, reader, seamstress, and knitter, and her children carry on these pursuits. Together she and John traveled to National Parks, heritage sites, and with Elder Hostel Travel Tours. Her favorite way to pass the time was visiting with family and friends over tea and sandwiches, and she relished a group-effort crossword.

Friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 10th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY 12019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following visitation at the church at 11:00 AM with Father Peter Russo presiding. A reception will be held at the church after the service.

Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, and Saratoga County Office for the Aging; memo, "Home Delivered Meals," 152 West High Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
