George A. Tongue, age 72, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. George was born in Schenectady, NY on January 1, 1945 and was the son of the late Vernon H. and Mildred (Becker) Tongue.
George graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1963, attended the University of Vermont before enrolling in General Electric’s Apprentice Program in 1966. He stayed with GE as an engineer for forty years completing his long and fulfilling career retiring in 2006.
George loved the outdoors and hiked all of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks proudly becoming a “46-er”. During his retirement, he loved spending his free time kayaking, sipping his favorite root beer and most of all kicking back with his beloved family and friends. His sense of humor will be missed by all. George was an active member of the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church serving on various committees including the Board of Trustees, the Building Committee, led Bible Studies and was a Lay Leader.
George is survived by his beloved wife Karen June (Bloomer) Tongue; devoted daughters Hilarie (Richard) Sabbia of Delmar, NY and Sarah (Victor Rodriguez) Tongue of Schenectady, NY and cherished granddaughters Ella and Malena Sabbia as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and his best and loyal canine friend Lucy.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, October 14th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held at the church and all in attendance are invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church 816 Route 50 Burnt Hills, NY 12027.
