Obituary for John Hershey Jr.

John Erik Hershey, Jr. passed away peacefully after waging a sixteen month battle with glioblastoma, surrounded by his loving family and good friends on November 2, 2017. John was born 44 years ago in Falls Church, VA. John moved to NY in 1989 where he later graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. He obtained both a BS and MS from SUNY Albany in applied mathematics and computer science.
John lived and worked in the Capital District until 2011 and then relocated to the Virginia area with his wife, where he lived and worked until his death. John had a long and fulfilling career in computer programming. His last employer was Fair Isaac and Company (FICO) in Fairfax, VA where he did specialized programming for the debt collection industry.
He was the loving husband of Chanel Chen; devoted father to Jackie Hershey and Christopher Hershey; the middle son of John E. and Anna S. Hershey of Charlton, NY; and a brother to David (Kim) Hershey of Star, Idaho and Jim Hershey (Joe Bellinger) of Davie, Florida. John is also survived by three nieces, one nephew, nine great nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law, and his sister-in-law.

All are invited to attend his funeral service on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Burnt Hills Baptist Church, 193 Kingsley Road, Burnt Hill, NY. A social hour will be held immediately after the service to visit with the family.

The interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton NY will be private.
