Obituary for Russell A. Young

Russell A. Young, age 96, formerly of Council Meadows, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born on Sept. 26, 1921 in Schenectady, NY and was the son of the late Alvah and Allie(Jennings) Young. He lived his entire life in Burnt Hills.
Russell honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. Upon returning from deployment, Russell worked at many different jobs over his lifetime. He was a trucker, mailman, boat salesman, school bus driver, and custodian. His many hobbies included miniature railroad layouts, boating and waterskiing, playing accordion, harmonica, and keyboard, and building and flying remote control planes and jets. He studied and earned his private pilot's license and belonged to Richmore Aviation. He and his late wife, Eleanor, camped with various trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes in every state in the lower 48. They also traveled to Hawaii and Alaska. Russell and Eleanor also loved motorcycles, mainly Honda Goldwings. They toured often and belonged to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. In retirement, they lived in Florida for 16 winters.
Russell was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Kavicky) Young; loving father to Gail H. Palmer; doting grandfather to Tammy (Sean) Townsend and Scott (Jennifer) Crawford and caring great grandfather of four.
Calling hours are April 25, Wed., 5-7 pm followed by a short service at 7 pm at the Townley and Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY.
