Obituary for Judith F. Strever (Fredriks)

Judith Anne Fredriks Strever, age 84, of Kingsway Arms and former long- time Burnt Hills resident, died on March 13, 2018 at her home at Kingsway Arms. She was born on November 17, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN and was the daughter of the late Theodore R. and Miriam (Fitzpatrick) Fredriks. Mrs. Strever graduated from Bethlehem Central High School, Delmar, New York, attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and earned her Associates Degree in Nursing at SUNY Adirondack with a 4.0 GPA. She had a rewarding career as a Registered Nurse and she retired after many devoted years at St. Claire’s Hospital and with the Visiting Nurse Association in Schenectady, NY. Judith was an active member of the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church and she enjoyed volunteering with the Make -A-Wish Foundation, where she was recognized for her strong commitment. Judy served as an EMT and the first female dispatcher with the Ballston Lake Emergency Squad for over a decade. As a resident of Coburg Village, Judy was active with the Writers Group, the Dining Committee, and served as an Ambassador to new residents.
During her lifetime she served as a Girl Scout and 4-H Leader, sang in the church choir, was a faithful blood donor, an avid bird-watcher, enjoyed knitting, crewel work, reading, cooking, beating everyone in cribbage, loved crossword puzzles and board games, family camping, and from Australia to the Amazon, from Trinidad & Tobago to Tahiti, she traveled the world with her adoring and adventurous husband Monte of 63 years.

She was the beloved wife of Montcalm H. Strever, loving mother of Starr Anne S. (Matthew) Stevens of Tarpon Springs, FL and Cynthia Elaine S. (Bruce) Herron of Nassau, NY; caring grandmother of Morgan Joseph (Andrea) Stevens, Miriam Jeannette Stevens, Shawn Strever Herron and Elaine Rene Herron; adoring great-grandmother of Starr Lily Stevens, Stone Stevens, and Magnolia Stevens, sister of the late Nancy Nielsen of Lubec, Maine, and sister of the late Theodore Fredriks of Ohio. Several very special nieces and nephews also survive her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, Burnt Hills, NY.
