Montcalm "Monte" Strever

Montcalm Hoover “Monte” Strever, age 89, of Kingsway Arms and former long- time Burnt Hills resident died at home on August 9, 2018. He was born on February 5, 1929 in Schenectady, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Fitzgerald) Strever. Mr. Strever was a US Army veteran, served in North-East Africa, and was honorably discharged in December of 1951 as Cpl(T) 1. He graduated from Walter A. Wood High School, Hoosick Falls, New York, St Joseph’s Business College, Bennington, VT, and from Bentley School of Accounting & Finance, Boston, MA. He worked as an accountant with W.R. Grace & Co., New York City and following his service to our country he was a Public Accountant with Arthur Anderson & Co. In 1957 he began his 33 year career with the General Electric Company. In 1959 he completed the GE BTC Financial Management Program. He held a variety of specialist and managerial positions in finance at the Bridgeport, CT, Burlington, VT, Schenectady, NY, and Waterford, NY (Silicones Division) GE plants. He retired in 1989. Monte was a member of Patriot Lodge No. 33, Free and Accepted Masons, and a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. He was an active member of Burnt Hills United Methodist Church and he enjoyed volunteering with the Make -A-Wish Foundation, where he was recognized for his strong commitment. He was a member of the GE Silicone Retirees Club and the GE Elfun Society. As a resident at Coburg Village, Monte was active as a Bocchi Ball Referee and as an Ambassador to new residents. During his lifetime he served as a Junior Achievement Leader, church Trustee and Treasurer, enjoyed fishing, hunting, family camping, an avid Bridge and cribbage player, bowling, reading, community service work, and many years of world-wide travel with his beloved wife Judy of 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith F. (Fredriks) Strever (March 2018); loving father of Starr S. (Matthew) Stevens of Tarpon Springs, FL and Cynthia S. (Bruce) Herron of Nassau, NY; caring grandfather of Morgan (Andrea) Stevens, Miriam Stevens, Shawn Herron and Elaine Herron; adoring great-grandfather of Starr Lily Stevens, Stone Stevens, and Magnolia Stevens. Several very special nieces and nephews also survive him.
A private family celebration of life and burial will take place at Hoosick Rural Cemetery.
